  18. SUMMARY
  19. =======

  21. Microsoft provides the files in the Microsoft Windows NT Driver
  22. Library (WNTDL). Files in the WNTDL support many printers, displays,
  23. sound cards, and network card adapters that the Windows NT 3.1 release
  24. does not support directly. If you have a modem, the drivers are
  25. available at no charge on CompuServe, GEnie, Microsoft OnLine, and the
  26. Microsoft Download Service (MSDL). However, note that standard
  27. connect-time fees and long-distance telephone charges, if any, apply
  28. when you download files. When you connect to any of these services,
  29. please read the WNTDL.TXT file for downloading instructions and a
  30. complete list of the devices that the WNTDL supports.

  32. The phone number for the MSDL is (206) 936-MSDL (6735). There is no
  33. connect-time charge to use the MSDL.
  34.  
  35. On CompuServe, the WNTDL is in the Microsoft Software Library, which
  36. you can access by typing "go msl" (without quotation marks) at any
  37. CompuServe system prompt.

  39. On the GEnie and Microsoft OnLine systems, the WNTDL is in the
  40. Microsoft Software Library.

  42. If you do not have access to a modem, you can obtain an individual
  43. driver from the WDL on a disk by calling Microsoft Product Support
  44. Services at (206) 635-7018.

  52. MORE INFORMATION
  53. ================

  55. The Microsoft Windows NT Driver Library (WNTDL) contains device
  56. drivers for printers, displays, audio devices, storage devices, and
  57. network card adapters. These drivers enable these devices to run with
  58. the Microsoft Windows NT operating system.
  59.  
  60. As new and updated drivers become available, they will be added to the
  61. WNTDL.
  62.  
  63. This WNTDL.TXT file includes a list of all the devices supported by
  64. the drivers in the WNTDL and instructions for downloading the drivers.
  65. This file is updated on a regular basis.
  66.  
  67. NOTE: All the drivers included in this library are intended for use
  68. with Windows NT.

  70. Instructions for Downloading
  71. ----------------------------

  73. 1. Locate your device in the listing included at the end of this
  74.    WNTDL.TXT file. Note the name of the file listed next to the
  75.    device. You need to download this file from your download
  76.    service.

  78. 2. If you are downloading to a floppy disk, you need to have a
  79.    formatted, blank disk. If you are downloading to your hard
  80.    disk, create a new subdirectory in which you will place the
  81.    files.

  83.    CAUTION: Do not download files directly into your main Windows
  84.    NT directory. Doing so could overwrite files essential to the
  85.    proper operation of your system.
  86.  
  87. 3. Follow the downloading procedure used by your downloading
  88.    service. The file you download is the executable or program
  89.    (.EXE) file that you identified in step 1. This file contains
  90.    all the files you need to support your device.
  91.  
  92.    Download the .EXE file to your floppy disk or to the new
  93.    subdirectory you created on your hard disk.
  94.  
  95. 4. Change to the floppy disk drive (or the subdirectory on your
  96.    hard disk) that contains the .EXE file. At the MS-DOS prompt,
  97.    type the filename, and then press ENTER.
  98.  
  99.    When the .EXE file finishes running, all the files you need to
  100.    support your device, such as a .DRV file and an OEMSETUP.INF
  101.    file, are set up. You are also provided with a .TXT file that
  102.    contains instructions for installing the device drivers (or
  103.    other software) and a licensing agreement.

  105.    If you have problems extracting files, try downloading the
  106.    files again.
